Metering Solutions for Major Housing Redevelopment in London Borough

Project
Talk To Us

As part of a major housing redevelopment, a London borough required a range of essential utility services to support the safe and efficient delivery of the project. With extensive work planned across the site, careful coordination was essential to ensure the project could progress smoothly and in line with the wider redevelopment programme.

Connectus was brought in to support the borough with its utility requirements and provide a coordinated approach throughout the redevelopment and provide valuable support to the project.

Understanding the Site’s Utility Requirements

The project required the safe disconnection of existing electricity, gas and water services ahead of the demolition of a community hall and services yard. All associated meters needed to be identified and removed, with the relevant utility accounts closed to prevent ongoing charges and incorrect billing, requiring careful planning and coordination with the relevant suppliers.

However, the client faced two key issues:

  1. Identifying the existing supplies – The number and locations of the existing gas, electricity and water supplies serving the site were initially unknown. The client required support to identify the services and establish which supplies needed to be disconnected.
  2. Closing the utility accounts – All meters associated with the site needed to be removed and the corresponding utility accounts formally closed in order to prevent incorrect billing or ongoing standing charges.

Addressing these challenges required a coordinated approach to utility disconnections and meter removals, ensuring all necessary steps were completed safely and efficiently ahead of demolition.

A Coordinated Utility Solution

Connectus surveyed the site and were able to identify all of the existing electricity, gas and water meters and their incoming supplies to the site. They then issued a report detailing the next steps for disconnection.

Drawing on its established relationships with energy suppliers, metering companies and network operators, Connectus coordinated the necessary utility disconnections and associated meter removals.

This approach helped streamline the disconnection process, reducing the administrative burden on the client and keeping the project within the required timeframe.

In addition to the utility disconnections, Connectus managed the alteration of an existing Openreach/BT cable that followed a complex route and had the potential to affect neighbouring properties. This required careful coordination and consideration of the surrounding infrastructure to ensure the work was carried out safely while minimising disruption to the local area.

Successful Project Delivery

Through proactive coordination and a focus on reliable service delivery, Connectus helped simplify the process of managing complex utility requirements, providing valuable support to a significant housing redevelopment project.
