Export Contracts

Renewable Energy Generators and Export Contracts

Managing contracts for businesses generating renewable energy and exporting surplus back to the grid.

Get Started

Export Contracts for Energy Generators

An export contract is an agreement between a business that generates their own renewable energy (the generator) and the energy supplier or a third-party off-taker, allowing the generator to sell excess electricity generated by their system (like solar panels or wind turbines) back to the grid.

Connectus offers export contracts for generators, ensuring they get the best rates for their surplus power.

Our Energy Export Process

Our energy export process follows 5 simple steps:

01

Specification Review – We will start by reviewing the renewable system requirements to ensure they meet export and grid connection criteria.

02

Supplier Onboarding – We will then identify and onboard a suitable energy supplier to support the export contract.

03

Contract Application & Negotiation – Connectus will then submit the export application and negotiate the terms on your behalf.

04

Metering & Data Management – We will coordinate the appointment and setup of the metering operator and data collector.

05

Contract Go-Live – Finally, we will review and activate the energy export contract, so you can start earning on your excess energy.

Energy Export FAQs

How can I sell my excess energy?

You can sell surplus electricity back to the grid through an export tariff such as the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) or by entering into a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with an energy supplier or licensed buyer.

What is the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG)?

The Smart Export Guarantee is a UK government-backed scheme that pays generators for renewable electricity exported to the grid, including energy from solar PV and wind systems.

What is a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA)?

A Power Purchase Agreement is a contract between a generator and an energy buyer that sets out the price, duration, and terms for exporting electricity. PPAs are typically used for larger or more consistent generation projects.

How much can I earn from selling excess energy?

Export rates vary depending on the supplier, tariff, and contract structure. SEG tariffs are usually paid at a few pence per kilowatt-hour, while PPAs may offer higher or more stable rates for larger export volumes.
