G99/G100

Talk To Us

G99 and G100 refer to UK regulations and standards for connecting electricity-generating equipment (like solar panels, wind turbines, batteries, etc.) to the electricity distribution network. These standards ensure safety, reliability, and that the grid can handle the new generation sources.

G99 – For Larger Generation Installations

G99 applies to generation systems over 16A per phase (typically over ~3.68kW single-phase or ~11.04kW three-phase). It covers:

  • Larger commercial solar, wind, CHP, battery systems, etc.
  • Connection to the distribution network (11kV or 33kV typically).
  • Requires engineering assessment, more paperwork, and permission before installation.
  • Governed by the ENA (Energy Networks Association) document: Engineering Recommendation G99.

Key requirements:

  • Detailed application process to the Distribution Network Operator (DNO)
  • Witness testing (sometimes)
  • Protection settings and compliance documentation

G100 – For Managing Export Limits

G100 is a standard that allows control of how much electricity is exported back to the grid.

  • Applies regardless of system size
  • Used when the DNO limits how much power can be exported, to avoid overloading the local grid.
  • A G100-compliant Export Limitation Scheme (ELS) ensures exports don’t exceed the agreed limit.

Example: You install a 10kW solar system, but the DNO only allows 3kW export. G100 ensures your system automatically limits export to 3kW.

As part of our services, we handle the entire G99 and G100 application process on your behalf. From initial site assessment and liaising with the Distribution Network Operator (DNO), to preparing and submitting all required documentation, we ensure your generation system meets regulatory requirements smoothly and efficiently. Whether you’re installing a large-scale solar array or need an export-limiting solution, we take care of the technical and administrative aspects, saving you time and ensuring compliance from start to finish.
